There are few experiences that I can call truly transformational. High on the list, though, is my recently concluded participation in the Mandela Washington Fellowship – Young African Leaders. On any given day throughout the 7 weeks in the United States my ‘comfort zone’ was challenged, whether from a personal, professional or social perspective.
I learnt a lot about challenging assumptions, building relationships and immersed myself in a different way of life. And at the end of it all I got to speak for 5 minutes on a topic close to my heart. It was a lot of things but most of all, it was about choosing not to conform, about embracing a portfolio life.
